Windows 2000 Core Technologies

This course provides the foundation for supporting Windows 2000 operating systems. It prepares students for the exam 70-240 (Microsoft Windows 2000 Accelerated Exam for MCPs Certified on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.) or for the four core exams: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, or 70-217. This depends on whether a student is certified in the three NT 4.0 core exams.

Part 2.1. 
Windows 2000 core Technologies

This module is designed for people with NT 4.0 experience. Certifications in NT 4.0 core are highly advisable as this module prepares students for the upgrade from NT4.0m to Windows 2000. This module includes the following topics:

  • Windows 2000 Professional. Installation, configuration, and administration of this desktop OS in network environment.
  • Installation, configuration, and administration of Windows 2000 Server that functions as a member server in an Active Directory environment.

  • Administration of Active Directory components such as Dynamic DNS, RIS, Group Policy, and Active Directory Security Solutions.
  • Administration of Windows 2000 infrastructure, TCP/IP, and security.

Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure

This prepares students for the exam 70-219 and includes the following topics:
  • Design, analyses and implementation of Active Directory.
  • Administration of DC (Domain Controllers)
  • Planning and Design of Directory Service Architecture.
  • Domain structure, naming strategy, and Organizational Units (OU)
  • Service locations for Global catalog servers, DC, DNS servers, and other components

This prepares students for the exam 70-221 and includes the following topics:
  • TCP/IP concepts including DHCP, DNS, name resolution and others.
  • DFS strategy
  • Internet connectivity, which include some of the following: Dial-up networking, VPN, and routing
  • Optimizing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Windows 2000 network services.

Upgrading from Microsoft NT 4.0 To Microsoft Windows 2000

This prepares students for the exam 70-222 and includes the following topics:

  • Preparing students environment for migration and Migration strategy

  • Post-migration procedures and troubleshooting.
