Cognos 8 Modeling
Module Description:
This Module is designed to provide
hands-on instruction for Data Modelers that need to gain a foundation in
modeling metadata using Cognos® Framework Manager 8.4. This Module’s
teaching methodology engages the students and promotes long term
retention. It is project-based, discovery-driven, collaborative and
adaptive to an individual’s learning preference.
Module Objectives: Upon completion of this Module, students will be
able to:
- List the common data structures and the differences in operational and reporting databases
- Describe the OLAP data sources and
the Framework Manager environment
- Create a Framework Manager project;
Create a prompt; Create a time dimension
- Explain the workflow of
Framework Manager and Cognos 8
- Publish packages
Prerequisites: Introduction to BI and Cognos or Basic experience with
Cognos 8 BI Report Studio is helpful; Basic knowledge of SQL and Data
Warehousing is helpful Module Duration: 20 hours

Introduction to OLAP Data Sources; The Purpose of Framework Manager and

Manager Project; Verify and Model Query Item Properties; Resolving
Circular Relationships; How to use and customize Metadata; Modeling for
Predictable Results; Relationships and Cardinality; Stand-alone and
Embedded Filters; Creating a Prompt, Time Dimension, Presentation Layer;
Relational and Dimensional Business Views; Security; Publishing Packages
